Texas Rental Assistance and Legal Help for Renters
Here are places to start for Texas rental assistance and legal help. Before you count on any help, confirm the program covers your area, that you qualify and that it’s taking new requests right now.

Search 2-1-1 Texas by where you live and what you need. What’s available, the funding and who qualifies all vary by program.

In Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin or San Antonio, search assistance programs by your current ZIP code. Ask each program if it covers your area, if it’s taking new requests and which documents it needs. Then check whether it helps with an old rental balance, a deposit or current rent.
If you’ve gotten court papers, read the deadlines and get legal help right away. Apartment locating won’t settle an eviction case, and it isn’t emergency housing.
